toot-a-loo 2011

What a year.

Personally 2011 has been one of the most challenging years I have encountered.
Creatively 2011 has been one of the most amazing years I have encountered.

The year started off with a yawn, doing a couple of markets here and there. In April we had the SK photo shoot. With the amazing assistance of Christine (photographer) Alison and Rachel (models) and Michaela (make up and hair), we put together a selection of Savage Kitten looks utilising the 2011 collection. It was a great day and we produced some amazing shots.

Next was the start of the wedding range as both of my models got married this year and sported SK headpieces among other accessories. This saw SK sewing silk, lace, chiffon and satin. Such lovely materials to work with.

An opportunity arose via FB to participate in the Love is here exhibiiton and my photo was chosen to be exhibited in Melbourne and Sydney. I went to the Melbourne opening at Ambush and was amongst such talents as Ruffbat, Hungry Designs and many others.

SK got their first stockist at Pony Boy Parlour in Melbourne, followed by Raggedy Anne in Kingscliff.

Then came September and the market angle amped up to at least one a weekend. Not to mention the Materialistic exhibition, which was also the catalyst for an article that was published in *bespoke* in the Summer edition.
October was vintage carnivale in Ipswich, where SK was a stallholder and had items on the catwalk. That was an amazing evening.

Seam Magazine arrived in Brisbane in October and SK's red riding bow found it's way into a photo shoot.

In November, both Madam Sparrow's market began in Chirn Park on the GC and The West End Twilight markets in Brisbane. These 2 markets were heavily patronaged by SK in 2011.

December saw two A2 self portraits entered into the d'arcy Doyle art award on the GC. We attended our first Brisstyle market ever, which was a fabulous day. SK was approached to have an exhibition in a cafe in West End and the Valley in 2012.
An amazing year and if the first month of 2012 is anything to go by it is not about to slow up anytime soon.

Thank you for your support in 2011. I look forward to bringing you more unique, beautiful and interesting work and news in 2012.

SK xx

Love is Here

The ‘Love is Here’ Project / Book launch / Exhibition

I visited the Rancho Notorious exhibition in Melbourne. It was a great space and a fabulous display of some very talented artists. It was great to see my work amongst it as well as fellow creative Amanda from Hungry Designs. I hope to be a part of future projects by these guys, it has been great.

The idea behind Love is here is there are many ways to say 'I love you' and through the diverse range of unique, and beautiful, responses we have compiled an exhibition and limited edition book titled "Love is Here" which was launched at Rancho Notorious gallery in July and then onto aMBUSH Gallery in Sydney in August. good morning

I am feeling so inspired lately, SO inspired, like I can think of nothing else but creativity and setting every scene before me as a photo shoot. I literally jump out of bed (I am serious) each morning usually on 6 hours sleep and I can't wait to get my hands on fabric and sewing needles and everything else that takes my fancy.

Believe me it isn't all roses over here and by all accounts I should be worried (and I do a little) about my position personally and I am still taking steps towards a future that involves an income (!), however, I wish there was some way I could just stay in this state forever and still have food and a roof.

I have been in contact with some retail stores lately and a lot of people have been offering support and I have been overwhelmed with the positivity towards all things Savage Kitten. I guess believeing in myself has been harder than you all believing in me. Thank you. x
